  1. Introduction to the College

 

The interest in information stems from the extent of its importance in the development and advancement of peoples. Therefore, the computer was considered as a communication tool that performs a distinct function in the ease of transmitting, preserving, and distributing information in various fields. International experience says that the underdeveloped people today did not enter the industrial revolution or that they entered it recently, while the underdeveloped peoples tomorrow are the ones that did not enter the information revolution to this day and did not keep pace with the technological development accompanying this technical revolution. And based on the keenness of the university administration to catch up with the advanced world and provide its contribution to the advancement of society, the Faculty of Information Technology was established in 2006 AD, where the main focus is on information technology and to be the nucleus to provide solutions and assistance to local and international institutions.

The college seeks to contribute to the development and modernization of the educational system through training and preparing national competencies in order to contribute to the activation of human development plans and the development process in general and also seeks to introduce advanced technology, and contribute to creating a qualified generation in dealing with advanced technology and serving different sectors of society from During the provision of “scientific and technical” logistical consultations, as well as information culture and information technology mechanization.

 

  1. Objectives

The Faculty of Information Technology aims to prepare and graduate specialists in various branches of computing and pure and applied information technology in line with the requirements of scientific progress and the needs of society to the properties needed to serve economic, scientific and social development and to satisfy students’ aspirations and aspirations. To achieve this, the college works on:

  • Preparing targeted and integrated programs of study to ensure obtaining the academic degrees granted by the college.
  • Conducting scientific research and studies in the various branches of information technology, strengthening scientific links and exchanging experiences with other scientific bodies inside and outside Libya.
  • Providing facilities and means to create a climate conducive to creative work by faculty and students.

  1. Computer Science:

This specialization covers various branches of computer science from theoretical foundations and the foundations of algorithms and software to the latest developments in robotics, Intelligent Systems, Bioinformatics, Computer vision, and other exciting fields.

 

Therefore, computer science covers a range of theoretical and programmatic sciences, other than the other sciences that produce two outputs for specific jobs. Computer science provides its graduates with a comprehensive basis that allows them to keep abreast of new technologies, ideas and innovations in the field of computer, and that helps them a lot in continuing their higher studies in the future.

 

 

  1. Software Engineering:

This section aims to teach a set of foundations and rules that improve the methods of designing and developing software systems at all levels, from collecting requirements, specifications, analysis and design to testing and maintenance, and ensuring their quality, as well as managing software projects.

 

  1. Information systems:

The graduates of this section are distinguished by the high ability to deal with data and information, and to provide officials with them to assist them in carrying out business and making decisions within institutions, so that this information is characterized by completeness, comprehensiveness, health, accuracy, reliability, and appropriate in terms of quality, timing and cost. It also has the ability to supervise the procurement and management of IT resources and services, and to build, operate and develop infrastructure and systems for use in organizations.

 

Responsibilities: planning – development – acquisition – application – management of information technology infrastructure – data management and processing systems – bringing in modern technologies and helping to include them in enterprise strategy, planning and daily work – supervision of information centers.

4. Network and Computer Communications Department:

 

The Department of Networks and Computer Communications aims to consolidate practical knowledge in the field of communications in general and computer networks in particular as one of the most important communication systems deployed in almost all fields and enabling the student to keep abreast of the latest developments in the midst of this rich knowledge of all new. The curriculum covers the basics of communications, especially those related to computer networks, and students, through laboratory assignments and specially designed projects, are exposed to problems similar to what they may face in practice, enabling them to work with confidence and confidence in practical, scientific and commercial environments after graduation.

 

 

  1. Study system

Academic degrees:

On the proposal of the College Board, the University of Benghazi awards the following degrees:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.

Academic degrees or other degrees may be added to these degrees based on the proposal of the College Council, the approval of the University Council, and the accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education.

 

Academic System:

First: The study period to meet the graduation requirements is limited to eight semesters (4 years) as a minimum and ten semesters (5 years) as a maximum, and the semesters in which the student is allowed to stop enrollment are not counted. The student may also be granted two additional semesters for the aforementioned period in case he passes (90) study units.

 

Second: The study in the college is quarterly, and each academic year includes two semesters: the first is the fall semester and the second semester spring. Each semester consists of (16) sixteen weeks, including two weeks for the semester end exams, according to the study program prepared by the college, which follows the dates of the lectures and sessions The Council and the College Council may add a third semester – the summer semester – when the necessary capabilities are available.

 

  1. Academic courses

Based on the proposal of the scientific departments of the college and the accreditation of the college council, the specialized and supported courses are divided into compulsory and optional courses. According to the proposal of the concerned department and the college council, compulsory courses and optional courses can be modified in addition or omission. The study plan determines the number of units needed to obtain a bachelor’s degree in information technology which the college grants, so that the minimum units are (128) one hundred and twenty eight units, and the upper limit It is (140) one hundred and forty units.

 

 

The college courses are divided into:

 

First: Specialized Courses: These are the courses that fall within the basic specialization of the student.

 

Second: Supported Courses: These are courses that do not fall within the basic specialization of the student but are within the requirements of the department to obtain a degree.

 

Third: College Requirements: These are decisions determined by the College Board, University Council, or the Ministry of Higher Education and are among the requirements for obtaining a degree

 

Fourth: Additional requirements: The student chooses 2 elective courses from the other departments.

  1. Acceptance

For a student to be admitted to the college to obtain a bachelor’s degree in information technology, he must have a high school diploma (scientific section) or a specialized secondary school from disciplines related to information technology, and it should be taken into account that the priority of admission is according to the total grades in the secondary certificate The college may also take an acceptance examination if the need arises.

 

  1. Registration

 

  • Registration for the semester begins through the electronic portal and electronic guide during the week prior to the start of the study in each semester, and the student must register for the semester during the mentioned period.
  • The study in the college follows the system of accredited units as a basis for the student’s graduation in achievement, so that the courses of study are arranged according to their dependence on each other.
  • The maximum academic units for which a student may register for one semester are “twenty-one” (21) academic units and the minimum “twelve” (12) academic units, with the exception of the graduation semester.
  • If the student gets two consecutive warnings because his cumulative average is less than (1.6) points, the student must register the minimum permitted courses.
  • No student is entitled to register a general average of less than six out of ten (0.6) in two of the first four semesters, as well as students with four warnings or more and students of the eleventh semester (11).
  • The student may not be enrolled in advanced courses unless he has passed the general, introductory, and precedent courses.
  • The student is registered and signed on the courses chosen with the registration card based on the guidance and approval of the student’s advisor.
  • The student may add or drop academic courses that do not exceed the maximum or minimum for the study units established within a period not exceeding fifteen days (15) from the beginning of the registration of each semester, after the approval of the guide in a manner that does not conflict with the system of study and exams.
  • The student may enroll in courses less than the minimum or higher than the maximum units of study if this leads to the graduation of the student, after approval and approval of the relevant department.
  • The scientific departments deliver the registration cards after reviewing and accrediting them within a maximum period of two weeks from the end of registration in the college to the study and exams office attached to the lists of registered students’ names and numbers

 

 

  • Late registration and suspension of enrollment in the study:
  1. A student who has been late for registration on the specified date may submit the reasons for his delay to the head of the department at the college to consider his decision and make a decision regarding it, and no student has the right to register 15 (fifteen) days after the start of registration.
  2. Every student who has not registered must submit an application to the college registrar to suspend his enrollment

 

  • Optional withdrawal:

First: Partial Withdrawal:

A student who has taken a set of courses higher than the minimum may withdraw with more than that limit and that no later than one month before the end of the semester and according to the following conditions:

  1. The absence rate in the course should not exceed twenty-five percent (25%).
  2. Approval of the student’s academic advisor.
  3. Approval of the department head.
  4. Accreditation of the College Registrar.
  5. The withdrawal card is delivered to the study and examination office in the scientific departments.
  6. A partial decision may be canceled by the College’s administration.

 

Second: The total withdrawal:

The student may withdraw from all the semester courses in which he was enrolled, and no later than one month before the end of the semester and according to the following conditions:

  1. The student submits a request to withdraw completely from the relevant department, accompanied by the certificates indicated for the reasons for the withdrawal.
  2. The counselor submits a report on the student’s academic status to the relevant department with his opinion regarding the withdrawal.
  3. The total withdrawal is not calculated within the general graduation rate.
  4. Withdrawal is calculated within the maximum period of study mentioned in the study and examinations system.
  5. Acceptance and distribution of students to departments

 

The College Council shall lay down the principles and rules on the basis of which the students studying in the faculty shall be assigned to the scientific departments before the beginning of the registration, taking into account the following:

  1. The carrying capacity of the scientific departments.
  2. The number of completed units of study for a student wishing to major in not less than 29 “twenty nine” units of study.
  3. That the student does not have one or more warnings.

 

w Students transferring from other colleges:

Transfer to the college may be made from the corresponding colleges as well as other applied colleges in Libyan universities or one of the recognized universities, under the following conditions:

First: He must not have been previously dismissed from any university or college for scientific or disciplinary reasons.

 

Second: The transition student must submit his documents no less than two weeks before the start of the semester, approved by the college in which he is registered showing the number of study units, details, description of courses and their estimates to the dean of the college.

 

Third: The requests submitted by the equivalence committee composed of faculty members representing the different departments will be broadcast in the requests submitted by the college dean to be approved by the college dean for approval.

 

Fourth: The conditions for enrollment for the student enrolled in the first academic year of any university apply, and he wishes to transfer to the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Benghazi. Conditions for enrollment for his colleagues enrolled in the first year in the college. But if the student’s transition comes to a different year than the first in the college, the formula applied in the college will be applied to it, and the formula will be as follows:

 

  1. Courses that the student has studied in the next college are excluded from them and are not scheduled in the college at any stage of the study.
  2. The courses that the student has passed in the next college from are compared to the corresponding courses in the college in terms of the curriculum and the number of hours. And the student is exempted from studying it if it is the same.
  3. The student is obligated to spend 4 semesters (65 units of study) at least before graduating from the Faculty of Information Technology.

 

Fifth: The College Council specifies for each semester the proportions required to transfer to the college in proportion to the college’s absorptive capacity.

 

w Move between sections:

The student can move from one department to another according to the following conditions:

  1. Take into account the carrying capacity of the department to which it is transferred.
  2. The comparison between students applying for transfer is made in the light of the overall rate.
  3. The transfer student should not lose more than six academic units after the transfer.
  4. A student may change his major only once during his study period.

The College Council may amend the conditions for moving between departments for each semester, whenever the need arises.

 

  1. Examinations

w Examinations system:

The quarterly exams are divided into two parts:

  1. Examinations during the semester (partial exams).
  2. Final exams, which are held during the last two weeks of each semester for each course.

The student is evaluated in each course registered in the following manner:

  • (50%) of student work during the semester and consist of practical and theoretical exams, assignments and other activities.
  • (50%) for the final exam.

 

The College Council may amend these percentages upon the request of the relevant department, provided that this be done within a maximum period of one month before the start of the semester in which the relevant course is taught.

 

w Exam dates and duration:

  1. The date of the partial examinations for the course shall be between the sixth week and the eighth week from the start of the semester.
  2. Other evaluation work for students ends in the course during the semester, at the end of the thirteenth week of each semester.
  3. The final exam period does not change and is determined by the last two weeks of each semester.
  4. The Study and Examinations Department is responsible for announcing the dates of the specialized courses exams, in coordination with the general courses exams.

 

w Exam questions and typical answer:

  1. Examinations shall be held in the language approved for each course.
  2. Examinations and model answers are prepared by the course professor and he who supervises them, prints the questions and takes the exam. In the event that the course professor is not available, the department selects another faculty member to act on his behalf.
  3. Copies of typical questions and answers for the final exams are kept in the relevant departments.
  4. Answer sheets are kept in the Study and Examinations Department for a period of two semesters

w Correcting exams and announcing the final results:

  1. The final results are delivered by the professor of each course to the relevant scientific department within a maximum period of one week from the date of the examination.
  2. The department approves the results and submits them to the college registrar for approval, who in turn submits them to the Department of Study and Examinations for monitoring and announcement.
  3. The failed student is entitled to request a review of no more than two courses within a period not exceeding two weeks from the date of the announcement of the result.
  4. Each department submits lists of graduates to the College Registrar no later than a month from the date of the end of the semester exams.
  5. The lists of graduates and obtaining leave from the college administration are approved and approved by the university administration.
